No.102 Yoshitune Senbon Zakura Toriimae

A scene from the kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura (Yoshitsune and the Thousand Cherry Trees) is now available as a 1/100 papermodel.
The play is one of the three greatest Kabuki repertoire, and tells of people associated with Minamoto no Yoshitsune, suspected of rebellion by his brother, Minamoto no Yoritomo. The story covers Yoshitsune’s associates and his enemy warriors in the Taira clan,
who were thought to have been obliterated, but secretly survived.

Yoshitsune fled the capital, but his loyal retainer Sato Tadanobu catches up with Yoshitsune at Fushimi, allowing him to save Yoshitsine’s lover, Shizuka Gozen. Tadanobu has a brave but somewhat mysterious appearance because this is not Tadanobu at all, but a fox transformed into human form.
