Born in Tokyo in 1960. After mastering woodworking techniques, he studied under designer Choei Hara and Shigemitsu Hara. Established Koizumi Studio in 1990. In 2003, he opened Koizumi Doguten as a place to convey his designs. From architecture to chopstick rests, he designs all aspects of life, and currently travels to manufacturing sites throughout Japan and continues to collaborate with local communities. In 2015, he established “General Incorporated Association Wazawaza” and started activities aimed at the restoration of handwork.
Professor Emeritus at Musashino Art University. Received the 2012 Mainichi Design Award. 2015 Japan Craft Exhibition Grand Prize. 2018 JID Design Award Grand Prize.
