Designer

Head of the Misawa Design Institute at Nippon Design Center and Associate Professor at Musashino Art University. After graduating from the Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design at Musashino Art University, she worked at the design office nendo before joining the Hara Design Institute at Nippon Design Center in 2009. In 2014, she established the Misawa Design Institute to launch her independent practice within the center.

Through experimental approaches, she continuously observes the principles hidden deep within things to visualize their untapped possibilities. Her major projects include waterscape, which reshapes underwater environments into new landscapes; Doshi (Moving Paper), an exploration of unprecedented possibilities of paper; WHO ARE WE, a mobile exhibition kit for the National Museum of Nature and Science; UENO PLANET, a visual series uncovering the lesser-known charms of Ueno Zoo; and bit by bit, a solo exhibition held at the ADI Design Museum in Milan.
